“Dear Dad,
When I was young, I never quite understood why you were so insistent about me packing my own bag for school and waking up on time. Homework was of course, something to be completed on time and examinations were to be prepared for in advance. Also, when I forgot to bring a textbook for a lesson, I called you in hopes that you would help me bring it to school and I could avoid punishment. No such luck – you sternly admonished me and told me to bear the consequences of my own carelessness.
Today, I look back and realise that everything you did was for my own good.
You wanted me to be self-reliant; hence you made me pack my own school bag and be responsible for getting to school on time. Responsibility and preparedness were qualities gained through my consistent efforts to complete my homework and revision on time. Also, thank you for never giving me the easy way out so I could learn from my mistakes and become more resilient. These are traits that have helped me stay on course my life journey.
I want to share my deepest gratitude and appreciation for your wisdom and foresight. Now you can fully trust me to help you plan for the golden years that you dream of.
Thank you Dad.”
