A career as a financial planner is not just about the monetary gains; here at Summit Planners it is immensely rewarding to see and hear about how we have touched lives along the way. After all, life is a journey that is better travelled with good advice – as a Summit Planner it is our calling to light the way for our clients. Here are some heart-warming anecdotes shared by our Planners:
“I met Miss P when she was 40 years old. Through the years, she has taken on the responsibility as the sole breadwinner. When her last dependent passed away, I encouraged her to live life the way she wanted. I counselled her to overcome all her fears and uncertainty while offering the option of a comprehensive financial plan that would allow for her to adopt a child and even migrate to Canada. I could feel her happiness as I bade her farewell at the airport. That was when I finally knew why I am meant to stay in this industry for the rest of my life – I am happy when my clients are.”

“The day I delivered the first claim cheque is the day that I realised that this is not just a financially rewarding career, but also one that enables me to truly reach out and help others.”
Johnny Choy Yew Mun, Associate Vice President
“I was referred a Chinese couple who wanted to purchase a hospital plan. Despite my rudimentary grasp of Mandarin, I asked permission to take them through a detailed financial plan I had drafted for them. We also talked for some time after to get to know each other better. Before we parted, they said to give them a week’s time. On the next day, the wife called me to arrange for a second meeting and also requested me to prepare a plan for them. We met up and I explained to them the plans which I had tailored from my previous presentation and our conversation. What surprised me was their speed and readiness in agreeing to all of my recommendations; I knew that they were also considering other options. I was immensely touched and gratified when they told me the reason was because they could feel my sincerity and passion and that I truly cared.”
Etta Ng, Director, Financial Services
“One of my Muslim client’s husband had to amputate both legs due to diabetes. Being the sole owner of a home in Ang Mo Kio, he would have had to sell the house and distribute the proceeds under the Islamic Sharia rules. To work around this unfavourable circumstance, I advised my client to amend the tenancy agreement to a joint tenancy, which she did. Following the passing on of the husband, the house was left to the wife. Till this day, my client is still very thankful that she heeded my advice; and I, very glad to have helped her in any way.” ‘
